New Year Housekeeping ~ 29 Dec 2023

It’s that time of year when it’s all about creating new spreadsheets, developing goals, tearing off a calendar pages, and staying safe as the year changes. What better time than now to note a few matters of astrological housekeeping?

As the year begins, Mercury is stationary, preparing to return to prograde motion. On 2 January Mercury goes officially direct in Sagittarius. The messenger’s start of the year mandate: Be chipper and upbeat. Rework thinking for outcomes consistent with personal beliefs. Stretch out those New Year’s resolutions, if any, to include the entire spectrum of what you intend to gain from beyond the calendar year ahead. Should you have no resolutions, how about some bullet point objectives, heavy on results in February, April, June, October and December.

At 39 minutes after midnight, GMT, on 3 January, Earth achieves perihelion - the closest point to the Sun in its annual revolution around the gravitational plate spinner of our solar system. While moving at its greatest speed in its orbit, Earth receives solar radiation through the shortest distance to the Sun, thus with slightly more intensity. With this annual event, there is always an increased sense of needing to get on with things, regardless of other transits. Focus on matters mundane. Break them up into bite-size tasks and assign them to the calendar. This task is important as...

On 4 January Mars enters Capricorn, the sign of his exaltation. Mars grooves along in Capricorn, realizing that major tasks need not all be completed in a day. Mars maintains motivation for all ongoing, large project objectives by documenting work done, stages of completion and quality of effort. Even if life feels like a brick by brick process, remember the Great Wall of China took more than two millennia to complete... exact figure unknown and no estimate as to how long it would take to build the wall with today’s capabilities.

Speaking of China, come 16 January Saturn conjoins the dwarf planet Gonggong in Pisces. Gonggong was a chaos-creating deity in Chinese lore who got knocked on his butt in a battle with another deity. Gonggong hit his head on the Earth and caused the planet to tilt, thus the obliquity of the ecliptic. The Saturnian reality of this transit is to ask if ones point of view, orientation, or slant on life compatible with long-term objectives? If not, what can you do to secure a clean slate, a new slant and redirected perspective and purpose? Whatever it is, the effort will pay off.

During this time frame expect China to resume significant focus and attention in the news of the world... no matter how you might be inclined to react to those stories, do your darndest to apply the best point of view you can conjure and seek to extract personal insights from global affairs.

Next up, on 20 January the Sun takes on a conjunction with Pluto in Capricorn. Here, the point is to shed a light of evolution on every situation that appears in front of you. The Sun burns through any seasonal fog and directs ones attention to clear and undeniable realities that emerged from that strange “abracadabra” moment from before where suddenly things and circumstances appeared out of nowhere, evidently demanding immediate and conscious attention. What is the hard core, real-world reality of what manifested just like that? Are you good with it? Regardless of how you feel about the new eventualities before you, the question becomes: What are you going to do about this with the fullest extent of all your abilities to produce a result that is consistent with your perceived evolution?

The following day Pluto leavess Capricorn. Mars, Mercury and Venus come to conjoin Pluto between 5 February and 16 February. The distinction is that each of these personal planet movements to Pluto occur in Aquarius. The perceived objective will no longer be how to squeeze something of value from this, but more, how to convert the matters at hand into circumstances that produce the best results for all concerned. That deserves a hallelujah.

Also deserving a hallelujah is the arrival of the new year in virtually hours. Saturn reminds us all that the past is the past, and the experiences of what happened before only need to be applied as wisdom during the moments at hand, such that more favorable results appear in the future. To coin a blessing from nautical realms, “May you sail with following seas and fair winds!”

Happy 2024 to all! Fortuitous transits lie ahead alert. Stand by for more SkyScraping posts throughout the year. Feel free to share with those who may benefit or have interest.
